Rob Letterman directs this comedy adventure based loosely on the classic satirical novel by Jonathan Swift. Jack Black stars as Lemuel Gulliver, a lowly mailroom worker who spontaneously reinvents himself as a free-spirited travel writer in order to impress a co-worker. He soon finds himself mistakenly sent off on a whirlwind assignment to Bermuda and en route is washed ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput. Initially captured and enslaved by the island's diminutive and industrious population of Lilliputians, he eventually manages to win them over with his questionable charms and is eventually declared their hero. The supporting cast includes Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Amanda Peet and Billy Connolly.
Alison Brie and Jason Sudeikis star in this romantic comedy written and directed by Leslye Headland. Lainey and Jake (Brie and Sudeikis), who lost their virginity to each other in college, have found it difficult to maintain healthy, monogamous relationships since that fateful night 12 years ago, owing to an over-reliance on sex. Now, after running into one another at a therapy course for sex addicts, Lainey and Jake begin a friendship while promising to keep it platonic...
This rollicking and slightly absurd comedy from director Jesse Peretz (FIRST LOVE, LAST RITES) begins when Tom Reilly (Zach Braff) loses his promising chef job at a swanky New York restaurant. He is compelled to move to small-town Ohio to take a job with his father-in-law (Charles Grodin) at an advertising agency to support his wife, Sofia (Amanda Peet), and newborn son. Tom's adjustment to the rhythms and rituals of the office world is awkward at best, and complicated by the presence of an old high-school flame of Sofia's (Jason Bateman), a passive-aggressive paraplegic who schemes to get Sofia back. Meanwhile, Sofia must cope with the shock of switching roles from powerful big-city lawyer to stay-at-home suburban mother. Young working parents will identify with the familiar conflicts presented here as the embattled Tom and frustrated Sofia struggle to make sense of their new responsibilities. Braff purveys his patented nerdy charm as a nice guy whose behaviour becomes more and more manic as the rug gets continually pulled out from under him, and Peet is a lovely screen presence even as her character's patience and enthusiasm fade in less than attractive ways. Their performances blend wry intelligence with out-and-out slapstick, and they are supported by a superb ensemble cast including Amy Poehler, Amy Adams, Paul Rudd, Donal Logue, and Mia Farrow. While some of the situations and jokes border on tasteless, it's the smart kind of gross-out humor of a Farrelly Brothers or Jay Roach film, and the film never never loses its heart, as embodied by Braff and Peet.
Coming-of-age comedy starring Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell. 14-year-old Duncan (Liam James) is forced to spend a summer at his mother (Toni Collette)'s new boyfriend Trent (Carell)'s beach house in upstate New York. Arrogant and a bully, Trent likes to belittle Duncan at any opportunity, leading the boy to take off on his bike to explore his new environment. It is then he comes across the Water Wizz water park and before long a friendship develops between Duncan and the park manager, Owen (Rockwell). Seeing the water park as the much needed escape he has been looking for, Duncan keeps his whereabouts a secret from the others and thanks to Owen's positive outlook and encouraging attitude begins to grow in confidence.
Double-bill of comedies starring Melissa McCarthy. 'The Boss' (2016) follows Michelle Darnell (McCarthy), a wealthy and ruthless business tycoon who is imprisoned for insider trading. When she emerges from the clink, Michelle finds her business and reputation in ruins. Abandoned by most of her friends, save her assistant Claire (Kristen Bell), Michelle sets out to rebuild her empire by bringing her entrepreneurial cut-throat approach to girl scouts and their cookies. In 'Identity Thief' (2013), after learning that his credit cards are being used to fund the lavish lifestyle of shopaholic Miami resident Diana (McCarthy), mild-mannered Denver accountant Sandy Patterson (Jason Bateman) sets out to clear his credit rating by bringing her back to face the music. But with the clock ticking and Diana deciding to dig her heels in, Sandy soon finds himself forced to try every trick in the book, and some that aren't, to bring his fugitive home.
From Roland Emmerich, director of The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day, comes the ultimate action-adventure film, exploding with groundbreaking special effects. Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. Soon, the world faces a catastrophe of apocalyptic proportions as cities collapse and continents crumble. 2012 brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.
